Services

We host the world’s most comprehensive range of freely available, up-to-date molecular databases.

Developed in collaboration with our colleagues worldwide, our databases and tools span the full range of molecular biology, and support researchers working in all areas of the life sciences.

Our services help scientists share data, perform complex queries and analyse the results in different ways. Users can work locally by downloading our data and software, or use our web services to access our resources programmatically. Our website serves millions of researchers in industry and academia working to find solutions to some of society's most pressing challenges.

Technical infrastructure

EMBL-EBI services are freely available, 24/7, from data centres equipped to host 60 Petabytes of data.

There are around 18.5 million requests to our websites every day, and we handle around 9.2 million jobs on average per month. The purpose of all this activity is to understand how life works at a molecular level, so the technologies we develop and supply are sophisticated and change rapidly. We take a collaborative approach to development, with an emphasis on using open-source technologies whenever possible.
